  • Nociception and the protective mechanism normal resting state.
  • Nocifensive behaviour.
  • The transition of acute to persistent pain.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Understand the definition for the pain experience.
  • List factors involved with nociception.
  • Understand the normal resting state of the protective mechanism.
  • Describe factors involved with Nocifensive behaviour.
  • List and describe factors involved with sensitisation of the protective mechanism.
  • List the factors that may contribute in the transition of acute to persistent pain
  • Be able to apply 2 take home clinical applications.
