The Stiff Shoulder is the first module in the Diagnosis and Non-Surgical Management course.

 

 

 

In this module you will learn how to make an accurate diagnosis of stiff shoulder conditions using clinical examination and diagnostic imaging, and how to apply evidence-based, non-surgical management for frozen shoulder and glenohumeral osteoarthritis. 

Diagnosis of the stiff shoulder

Many conditions can present with a 'stiff shoulder', and an accurate differential diagnosis is important in guiding management. 

In this lesson, we cover:

  • Definition of the 'stiff shoulder'
  • Diagnosis of glenohumeral joint pain
  • Diagnosis of glenohumeral joint stiffness
  • Differential diagnosis of 'stiff shoulder' conditions.

Frozen shoulder

In this lesson, we look at Frozen Shoulder. We will cover:

  • Pathoaetiology
  • Natural history
  • Diagnosis of glenohumeral joint stiffness
  • Diagnosis
  • Non-operative management
  • Evidence-informed physiotherapy management
  • Referral criteria

Glenohumeral osteoarthritis

In this lesson, we look at glenohumeral osteoarthritis. We will cover:

  • Pathoaetiology
  • Natural history
  • Diagnosis
  • Non-operative management
  • Referral criteria

Study time: 9 hrs (approx.)

Optional workshop: 1 day - 29th June 2019, North Shore Hospital, Physiotherapy Department, Auckland, NZ.

This workshop is a practical and interactive to promote critical thinking and enhance clinical reasoning. The workshop includes:

  • physical examination assessment techniques
  • clinical case studies
  • live patient assessment and treatment
  • treatment planning and rehabilitation case studies

Please note: Completion of The Stiff Shoulder is a pre-requisite to this workshop.
